I'm Spinning!

No, not that kind of spinning. You couldn't possibly pay me enough to get onto a torture device cunningly disguised as an ordinary stationary bicycle for one minute, never mind a whole hour.
I'm talking spinning wheels.

My Ashford Joy finally arrived today. Here it is...

Looks kind of like a teeny tiny cathedral, don't you think? I spent the afternoon setting up and putting all of the hooks, brake band and other doodads where they belong and have spun a little bit of roving.

Sorry about the blurriness and awkward angle, it isn't easy trying to aim the camera and at the same time keep a grip on the yarn so the twist doesn't come out while I'm trying to get a photo of it.

Here's a better picture of the yarn on the bobbin.

This is my first handspun. Actually, that's a lie. This is my official first handspun.

The real first handspun was done in Colleen's lounge with her filming it and Dave asking multiple questions. Trying to answer him and spin, on a too low seat and rug that shifts while you treadle so that the wheel slowly inches away as you try to spin is not recommended. It came out looking like cat kotch in a tumble dryer. The official first handspun (done with no such distractions) came out looking more like actual yarn, so it's the one I'm sticking with.

More yarny pictures will follow, now I have to sleep. I'm doing the early shift tomorrow. And, unfortunately, work pays for my yarn habit, so it's not optional.

Goodnight...
